Painting is my Zen

I am pleased to announce that Bri's Brushes is joining forces with Sweet Buddha, in Glencoe, to offer painting parties for children and adults! I've been working with owner Sarah Miller on some party theme concepts to base the paintings on, and have created a couple of custom paintings for exclusive use at Sweet Buddha parties. Here are a couple of sneak peeks!

A Mural for Matt

I had the immense joy of finishing Matt's undersea mural last night. He is such an interesting and creative kid, and he is not shy about showing his enthusiasm for my painting. First order of business was to finish up the HMS Pikachu submarine I started for him the last time I painted. I think it turned out pretty cute, and he and his dad in particular were thrilled! We discussed whether the sub should be the "HMS" or the "USS" Pikachu, and ultimately decided that "HMS" made more sense with it being a yellow submarine. Next was a manta/stingray. He has a plushy ray that he's had since he was little, and keeps it on his bed. It's very special to him, so he wanted one painted on his wall. I

Things are happening!

Who's got two thumbs, 18 tabletop easels, 24 11x14 canvases, and a gig teaching a painting party? I've booked my first official painting party for a child's birthday. I'm so excited! I've also generated some interest from a local small business that hosts various kinds of parties, and who has been wanting to bring in an artist to lead painting parties. I'm super excited to dive into this! I have wanted to host painting parties since I went to my first one in 2013. I am amazed that it's finally happening, and that Bri's Brushes is becoming a reality! Wish me luck, world :-D

A mural for my mama

My Mama's birthday is today! Happy birthday! I won't say how old she is, of course, but let's just say I still need her and promise to still feed her... Anyway, she requested that I finish the mural I started *ahem* some time ago. So I came over and got to work! Meanwhile, elsewhere in the backyard, my sunflowers had some competition... I've got one more flower to paint, which she requests be pink and purple instead of yellow. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I may also do something to tie the whole thing together, but for now, it's bringing a smile to my mama's face!

Launch of the Dill Pickle

Great news! The new Dill Pickle Co-op will be OPEN FOR BUSINESS starting tomorrow, September 8th! Even better news? (in my humble opinion...) Bri's Brushes got a shout-out in the LoganSquarist article about the opening of the new store! Woot! Check it out here. Hopefully this gets me some traction on some new gigs :) In the meantime, here's a GIF of a pickle flying in front of a rainbow and a mountain.

Sharks and Pickles and Painting, Oh My!

Well world, I did it. 10 years after getting my degree in painting, I have finally decided to really put myself out there and get painting... FOR MONEY! After years of providing artistic services for friends and family, I decided to take the plunge and signed up for Thumbtack. Amazingly, there I have found people who want to pay me to do my favorite thing. So here I am on the other side of my first big weekend of muralry for hire, and it feels amazing. I have two happy clients, one of whom wants me back for more, another that has resulted in a mention in a local paper. How cool is that?! Mural #1 of this weekend was for a 12 year old boy who has always wanted a shark on his wall. What a damn
